How My Internship Has Helped Me Grow Personally and ProfessionallySubmitted by BCR Wealth Strategies on July 19th, 2021
The first thing I noticed when I began my internship at BCR was how positive, welcoming, and encouraging the work environment is. Ever since my first day at BCR, I have felt a part of the family. Since the beginning, each employee has made it a point to include me in their work and ensure that I understand what they are doing and why they are doing it. I have been able to work alongside both the advisory and operations teams and have been able to see both sides of the business.
The best part about working at a place like BCR is the positive atmosphere, which makes me excited to come to work every day. I enjoy the people I work with, and I know I am guaranteed to laugh multiple times a day. I appreciate how everyone can be serious and lighthearted at the same time.
One of my favorite experiences while working at BCR was being able to attend client meetings. I was able to sit in on virtual meetings and do the behind-the-scenes work that is needed for the meetings. This has helped me grow professionally because I was able to learn why things were done a certain way and why BCR is passionate about helping their clients succeed. Being a part of client meetings also helped me grow personally because I got to meet clients who were in different situations and learn how to be empathetic towards what people are going through as well as come up with an objective opinion at the same time. This helps me in my personal life because I tend to make decisions based on my emotions at the time and working with clients through tough decisions has helped me learn how to take an objective look at difficult situations in my own life.
Another way that my internship at BCR has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally is by all the learning/reading material that I was shown during my time here. I really appreciated the time that the advisors took to share information with me that they thought would be useful as I start my journey towards becoming a financial planner. I was given a book suggestion for The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel to help me understand more about financial planning and to have a better understanding of why clients make the decisions that they do. What I learned from this book has not only shown me how I should be handling my personal finances, but also how this information can apply to BCR’s clients.
My experience as a BCR intern has been nothing short of the best 12 weeks of my life. I am walking out of this internship a better person thanks to the development and encouragement I was shown during my time here. To everyone who has made this an experience I will never forget, THANK YOU!
