As an Accounting student at the University of Alabama, I was excited to accept a summer internship with BCR and learn more about the finance industry. Going into the summer, I was eager to see how I could apply my accounting skills to my time at BCR. I was also excited to come home to Birmingham for the summer and learn more about financial planning.

During my 12 weeks with BCR Wealth Strategies, I have had the experience any student wanting to pursue a career in the financial industry would love to have. On my first day, I walked in not knowing much about financial planning; since then, I have received ample opportunities to learn and grow my knowledge of the industry.
I am sure everyone has seen at least one movie with that stereotypical intern who is tasked with preforming miserable and frankly degrading duties. They get paid scraps to survive and are constantly fighting an uphill battle just for the possibility of an opportunity to work their way up the corporate ladder.
One of the biggest trends taking the nation by storm has been the recent infatuation with home renovation and restoration. Whether it’s the popularity of shows like HGTV’s Fixer Upper and Property Brothers or DIY Network’s Rehab Addict and First Time Flippers, almost every neighborhood has at least one house undergoing structural or cosmetic updates.
