As an Accounting student at the University of Alabama, I was excited to accept a summer internship with BCR and learn more about the finance industry. Going into the summer, I was eager to see how I could apply my accounting skills to my time at BCR. I was also excited to come home to Birmingham for the summer and learn more about financial planning.
During the interview process, I could tell BCR was different from other financial planning firms. BCR always puts the client first, and I was impressed with how devoted the team was to the client’s experience. In addition, the team at BCR is passionate about teaching and involving the interns as much as possible. I greatly appreciated anytime an associate or relationship manager involved me in a conversation about a client or the firm. I enjoyed learning from them, and I know I will be able to take what I learned and apply it to my own life in the “real-world” post-graduation in December.
Even from the beginning of my internship, I was trusted to work on meeting preparations, various client work, and on operation projects. My favorite part of the internship was participating in meetings with the clients. I was impressed at the amount of involvement I could participate in when it came to meetings. Not only was I allowed to participate in client meetings, but also, I was able to take on associate roles to prepare for the meetings. BCR team members asked for my input and giving my opinion was encouraged.
I was impressed by how well each team member at BCR truly lived out the 5 core values on a day-to-day basis. In particular, the team prioritized my experience with the core value of “growth through knowledge and service.” I am so thankful to have the opportunity to intern with a team that wanted to help me learn and dedicated time to help me achieve my professional goals.
Thank you to the entire BCR team for making this summer so special and helping me grow! And most of all thank you for always answering all my questions and taking time to help me learn.
